Chortens Before Ama Dablam, Chukpilhara or Chhupi Ri, Khumbu Valley, Nepal. On the popular trekking trail to Mt. Everest on the terminal moraine of the Khumbu glacier and between the rustic villages of Dhugla and Lobuche stands hundreds of chortens at Chukpilhara. Erected in the memory of those who have died while trekking and climbing in the surrounding high altitude mountains, chortens remind visitors of the often dangerous conditions offered up by these beautiful peaks. Ama Dablam provides a suiting background. © Luanne Freer, MD.
