Abstract

This book consists of 18 chapters dealing with the most important wireless sensor net issues from the most authoritative authors. It would be reasonable to include this book in any sensor net reference library, and I would accept most of the contents without reservation. So why do I not like this book?
Although none of the chapters were referenced as being previously published, this book had the feel of being a collection of reprints of journal papers. In many cases, after reading an article I had a feeling of déjà vu. I suspect that if I went through one of the piles of journal and conference printouts and photocopies in my office that I could find the exact same material previously published. The first chapter is a near science fiction disaster scenario from Jeremy Elson and Deborah Estrin that was clearly new material. But the rest seemed stale.
I feel that book chapters like this should have more tutorial content and be open to non-experts. This book is in essence a large journal special issue. The contents are good. The authors are good. I just feel that it does not have the coherence I expect in a book.
