The online-ahead-of-print version of the forum article “The Curiousness of Curiosity,” by Gilbert V. Levin, listed scientists who had stated that life on Mars “was detected” or “may have been detected” by the Viking Labeled Release experiment. Ariel Anbar, Arizona State University, Tempe, and Bruce Jakosky, University of Colorado, Boulder, both listed under “may have been detected,” asked that their names be removed from the list. Dr. Anbar never received the gang e-mail request nor granted permission. His principal objection to having his name listed is that it implies endorsement of the forum article's criticism of the Curiosity mission, a criticism with which he strongly disagrees. However, he says he does not categorically disagree with the statement that life “may have been detected.” Dr. Jakosky had originally indicated that his name not be included in the list, as it did not accurately reflect his views. Dr. Levin included his name in error. Dr. Dirk Schulze-Makuch, Washington State University, Pullman, asked his name be moved from “was detected” to “may have been detected,” saying he had made that position clear to Dr. Levin. In addition, the list misspelled the name of Giorgio Bianciardi. The corrected version of Table 1 on page 102 includes these changes.
