Ulcer Occurrence in the Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass Patient

Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery is currently the most frequently performed bariatric operation in the United States. Marginal ulcer is a minor complication after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery and peptic ulcer in the excluded gastric remnant is an even rarer complication. With early discharge, health professionals involved in the care of these patients should be aware of the incidence, causes, presenting symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and the importance of prevention of these ulcers. This article reviews the literature and summarizes the cliincal implications for health professionals.
