Past research has shown a relationship between insecure attachment and obesity. 2 The morbidly obese likely have diminished confidence and low self-esteem, therefore making them vulnerable to less secure attachment. The authors highlight how a comprehensive psychosocial evaluation, including an assessment of bariatric surgery patients' attachment style, can lead to proper mental healthcare utilization. Maximizing the social support of patients can be expected to enhance further their quality of life.
