Abstract

First of all, I take the opportunity to thank all of our tremendous reviewers who have contributed to making Bariatric Surgical Practice and Patient Care a world-class journal. We are publishing a list of all our reviewers in this edition of our journal. I am planning to publish the list once a year to highlight our great reviewers and hopefully transition some to our editorial board. I also thank Dr. Keeley Pratt for all her tremendous work as one of our valued associate editors. She will be stepping down to her increased responsibility at The Ohio State University. Dr. Pratt brought with her extensive experience in the field of human science, child and adolescent obesity, and the family dynamics behind obesity-related behaviors. We wish her the best and thank her for all her years of service.
In this issue, we have articles from around the world. There are a few studies I would like to highlight. The first study out of the Netherlands looks at pregnancy and bariatric surgery and the significant variation in bariatric surgeons' practices and preferences. There are many different practice patterns we see regarding the timing of pregnancy before and after bariatric surgery. The second is a randomized comparative study out of Egypt investigating staple line complications without reinforcement, with oversewing, and with buttressing in laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. This is a well-designed study with 100 patients in each group. I find this article interesting since I also use these techniques in my sleeve gastrectomies. The last article I would like to highlight comes from the United States looking at the relationship between presurgical pain and early postbariatric surgery outcomes. These are just a few of the many great articles that are in the June 2022 issue of Bariatric Surgical Practice and Patient Care.
Lastly, I hope to see many of you at the annual American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) meeting in Dallas. I have the privilege of chairing the flexible endoscopy committee for ASMBS and I anticipate many advances in endoluminal technology in the near future including updates on endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty. Please stay tuned and I wish everyone a happy spring and summer.
Sincerely,
