Abstract

Dear Editor:
I am writing to you as the Chair of the ABM Protocol Committee. We currently have published 24 protocols and two statements. The process for each one is rigorous and labor-intensive to produce the highest-quality, evidence-based protocols possible. Over the years we have changed how we have credited the protocols, as we have lead contributors and the ABM Protocol Committee and Board who all contribute to the final product. Authorship is ultimately that of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine. But in fairness to the Lead Contributors, who do the bulk of the research and writing, we are changing the order of sub-authorship at the end of the protocols, listing “Lead Contributors” before the Protocol Committee. We are correcting that with “ABM Clinical Protocol #10: Breastfeeding the Late Preterm Infant (340/7 to 366/7 Weeks Gestation) (First Revision June 2011)” 1 and the actual publication of the e-publication of “ABM Clinical Protocol #24: Allergic Proctocolitis in the Exclusively Breastfed Infant” 2 and all future protocols and revisions. In addition, there is one other edit to Clinical Protocol #10 that will be made. In the Appendix the Ten Steps will be preceded by the statement: “Every facility providing maternity services and care for newborn infants should: ….”
Thank you for letting our members and readers know of this important change. We value all who contribute to the process of developing these invaluable protocols!
