Abstract

This special issue of Brain Connectivity will focus on “Transformative Technologies in Brain–Computer Interfaces—Innovations, Applications, and Challenges.”
Brain–Computer Interfaces (BCIs) represent a transformative technology in neuroscience and neuroengineering, offering direct communication pathways between the brain and external devices. BCIs have vast potential applications, from aiding individuals with disabilities to enhancing human–computer interaction and augmenting cognitive capabilities. This special issue of Brain Connectivity aims to compile cutting-edge research that explores the latest advancements, challenges, and future directions in BCI technology.
We invite high quality, original research papers, reviews, and case studies on topics including, but not limited to:
Neurophysiological Basis of Invasive and Non-Invasive BCIs Innovations in implantable neural interfaces Advances in EEG, fNIRS, MEG, and other neuroimaging techniques for BCI Novel signal processing methods for enhancing BCI performance
BCI System Development Innovative hardware and software design for BCI systems Machine learning and AI approaches for decoding neural signals
Applications of BCI Clinical applications in neurorehabilitation and assistive technology BCIs for cognitive enhancement and human augmentation BCIs in gaming, virtual reality, and interactive environments
Ethical and Social Implications Ethical considerations in BCI research and application User-centered design and usability studies Privacy, security, and data management in BCI systems
Future Directions and Challenges Integration of BCIs with other neurotechnologies Long-term adaptation and plasticity in BCI users Societal impact and acceptance of BCI technology
