Abstract

After completing his medical degree and urology residency at The University of Western Ontario, John proceeded to complete an endourology fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Subsequently he returned to The University of Western Ontario, where he joined the Division of Urology and assumed the position of Chief of Urology in 1991. He then became the City-Wide Chair and Chief of the Department of Surgery in 2003, a post he continues to hold after having been reappointed in 2008. He has published over 150 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Denstedt began an Endourology Fellowship in 1994 and has subsequently trained 23 fellows in endourology. His reviewer capabilities have been recognized by a Top Peer Reviewer award from both Journal of Urology and Journal of Endourology. In 1998, he became the first Canadian urologist to receive the American Urological Association's Gold Cystoscope Award for his contributions to urology. His research interests include minimally invasive surgery, urolithiasis, biomaterials, and the development/validation of simulator technology for teaching and training.
His contributions to the Endourological Society over the years have been many, including his organization of the 21st World Congress of Endourology in Montreal, Canada, in 2003, where the videoposter concept was initially displayed, and his current service as Treasurer of the Endourological Society. To all things, Dr. Denstedt brings a quiet sense of accomplished purpose; Journal of Endourology is fortunate to be the recipient of his services and to that end we believe the quality of the journal will benefit much for years to come.
