The upcoming October issue of Genetic Testing and Molecular Biomarkers (GTMB) will represent the final issue put together by our long-time Managing Editor, Diana Nolte. Ms. Nolte preceded my tenure here at GTMB having come on board with our previous editor-in-chief, Ken Berns, in 2006 to provide him administrative assistance. After my recruitment in January of 2015, Ms. Nolte was instrumental in teaching me the ropes—and for that I will be eternally grateful. Her tutelage included apprising me of what is expected of an editor-in-chief generally, and also how to navigate within our publishing house, Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. Publishers. Upon determining the very significant role that she played in the day-to-day operation of the journal, I promoted her to Managing Editor—a position she richly deserved. I have continued to rely on her experience and advice over the past three and half years during which we ran the journal together. More times than I can count, she has prevented problems by her proactively bringing issues to my attention that I would have otherwise missed. She has provided counsel on all aspects of the management of the journal including our editorial board configuration. In short, she has been a true professional partner in operation of this publication.
Those of you who are contributors to our journal have interacted closely with Diana at all stages of the submission, review, and revision processes. She checks all articles upon submission for style, identifies reviewers, and corresponds with reviewers and authors during the review and revision processes. We should all thank Diana heartily for her consistent and high-level of professionalism, attention to detail, and conscientious in ensuring that everything got done on time.
I would also like to welcome Diana's replacement as Managing Editor to the GTMB team, Sarah Fishkin. Sarah comes to us with 15 years of experience at the New England Journal of Medicine, where she directed the editorial systems and peer-review process. She is an expert in ScholarOne Manuscripts and is an expert in the development of best-practice workflows. To ensure a smooth and seamless transition, Sarah and Diana have been working together at GTMB over the past couple of months to familiarize Sarah with our operations. Let us wish both of our Managing Editors the best, Diana with her retirement and Sarah with her new responsibilities.
