Labial Adhesions As a Result of Caustic Vaginitis in a Postpartum Patient

ABSTRACT

Labial adhesions rarely occur in women of reproductive age. We present a case occurring in a postpartum woman secondary to caustic vaginitis from the application of ferric subsulfate to control bleeding. At postpartum examination, the patient complained of inability to have intercourse. The examination revealed labial and vaginal adhesions that required sharp separation with the patient under anesthesia. Healing was aided by packing saturated in estrogen cream. A review of the literature and recommendations for treatment are presented. (J GYNECOL SURG 14:129, 1998)
