Abstract
The Journal of Palliative Medicine would like to thank the following individuals who reviewed manuscripts in 2009. The voluntary peer review process is at the heart of a professional medical journal. Their insights and advice have helped to establish JPM's enviable reputation by selecting and shaping the articles that subsequently make their way into print.
JPM would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the 2009 Associate Editors: David Casarett, Karen Cross, Laura Hanson, Cari Levy, Susan Miller, Joanne Wolf, and V.J. Periyakoil. The Associate Editors review submitted manuscripts before they are sent for peer review. Their task is to determine if the manuscript is of sufficient quality and interest to undergo full peer review. Overall, about 30% of manuscripts are rejected at this stage. This ensures the peer reviewers are not overburdened, and prospective authors do not have to wait, particularly if their manuscript would be better submitted elsewhere.
