The Whitecoats enter the bunker as they usually do, but today they bring reinforcements.
‘The enemy continues to thrive despite our best chemical warfare. Its cells are currently marching forward, unopposed, and setting up strongholds in your brain, liver, and lungs.’
The Whitecoats suggest retreat. They want to spare the remaining armies the suffering and inevitable defeat to this stronger and more sophisticated enemy.
He responds with a wry smile and perhaps even a small twinkle in his eye. For a fleeting moment, his old friend returns to pay respect. A ray of sunshine has found its way to the dusty Purple Heart sitting unnoticed by all but him in the corner of his lonely room. The Whitecoats seem to have forgotten he has been here before.
Surrender is not an option.
