Dear Editor:
The recent publication on laparoscopic versus conventional Kasai portoenterostomy

is very interesting. In this report, Oetzmann von Sochaczewski et al.

concluded that “prevention of adhesion formation and facilitating subsequent liver transplantation are not rationales for laparoscopic Kasai portoenterostomy.” This conclusion is quite interesting. However, one might raise a concern about the small sample size in this report. The authors would like to share observation from a larger study. Of interest is the similar finding of no significant difference observed in postoperative outcome from classical and endoscopic approaches.

The main determination of the outcome should be the underlying pathology rather than the surgical manipulation.
