Abstract

In this issue, the Journal of Neurotrauma is proud to feature several outstanding articles on a range of topics related to traumatic brain injury. As Editor-in-Chief, I would like to draw special attention to the article by Barlow et al. regarding the efficacy of melatonin treatment for sleep disturbances in youth with persistent post-concussion symptoms (PPCS). The authors conclude that, “short-term melatonin is a well-tolerated treatment for sleep disturbance in youth with PPCS following mTBI. In this context, it may also be associated with a reduction in depressive symptoms.” This is an exciting result, and many of us who practice traumatic brain injury medicine either have read or will be reading this article carefully to see how it may affect our practice. I would also like to congratulate the authors on the use of the preferred term “PPCS,” rather than the non-preferred term “post-concussive syndrome (PCS).”
The editorial team would also like to note that several articles included in this issue have been published online only. While these articles have been citable as “ahead of print” since shortly after acceptance, the volume number, issue numbers, and page numbers indicated here should be used as the definitive citation.
Similarly, several of the articles are “living systematic reviews,” which should be cited using these volume, issue, and page numbers, with additional notation of the most recent date on which the living systematic review was updated.
