Abstract

This year in Thyroid, the journal had a record increase in the number of article downloads (increased 24% compared with last year). We published five guidelines and consensus joint statements from the American Thyroid Association, European Thyroid Association, European Association of Nuclear Medicine, the European Thyroid Association, the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, Japan Association of Endocrine Surgery, and the European Society for Pediatric Endocrinology and the European Society for Endocrinology (1 –5). The impact factor for Thyroid increased to 6.568 from 5.309. Our average time from initial submission to editorial decision was 20 days. Congratulations to the top three most digitally accessed original articles published in Thyroid this year (6 –8).
As the year comes to an end, I have reflected on my term and want to recognize the specialness of this journal. Our continued effort to be inclusive, reflect the makeup of our stakeholders, and engage current and future thought leaders is demonstrated in the increased membership of our editorial board. The editorial board now includes members from 18 countries, rising young investigators, and experts in thyroid epidemiology, health policy, and basic, translational, and clinical sciences. We also increased the membership in terms of sex, ethnicity, and racial diversity.
In addition, the science presented in the work published in Thyroid is entirely dependent on providing timely, comprehensive, and cogent reviews to our authors who submit their work. As such, I would like to acknowledge the following individuals for their superb contributions to our peer review process this year: Laszlo Hegedus (Outstanding Associate Editor of the Year), Sissy Jhiang, Irwin Klein, and Arthur Schneider (Outstanding Editorial Board Members of the Year), and Susan Pitt and Mike Tuttle (Outstanding Peer Reviewers of the Year).
It has been an honor for me to serve as the editor-in-chief of Thyroid. As I finish my term, I would like to thank the American Thyroid Association and Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., for their support and partnership, the authors for submitting their best work, and our dedicated editorial board members and peer reviewers. Thyroid will be in capable hands with our incoming Editor-in-Chief Anna Sawka. I am certain that Thyroid will continue to reach new heights and continue to be the definitive source of all things in thyroidology.
