Abstract

Text:
In this article, some errors were identified after the review process:
1. In Abstract on page 855, two sentences read as the following: “In total, there were 15,778 reported A. phagocytophilum infections, and the incidence rate was 7.27 cases per million persons per year, with the number of reported cases increasing each year. The demographic group most affected was middle-aged and elderly white males.”
Instead, this sentence should be revised as follows: “In total, there were 15,778 reported A. phagocytophilum infections, and the incidence rate was 10.36 cases per million persons per year, with the number of reported cases increasing each year. The demographic groups most affected were White persons, middle-aged and older persons, and males.”
2. In Section of “National Surveillance Systems” on pages 855–856, we wish to remove any mention of CRF and clinical data. Suggested changes are due to the fact that case report form data (CRF) was not used in the analysis and should not be listed.
Therefore, we suggest clarification to include the following statement: “Individual states and territory health departments use the National Notifiable Disease Surveillance System (NNDSS) to report surveillance data to CDC. Demographic data, including county and state of residence, sex, ethnicity, and race, are reported through NNDSS. Cases are reported as probable or confirmed by state and local health departments. Data for this study were accessed through publicly available Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report Annual Tables (https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/mmwr_nd/index.html). Incidence was calculated as the number of infections per million persons per year.”
3. On page 856, the Sex of Table 1 reads as the following:
Correction to be made, it should read:
4. On page 856, the footnote of Table 1 reads as the following: “The number of incidence cases is from the Nationally Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System, and the cases per million persons at risk (IRs) are calculated based on data from the Nationally Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System and the U.S. Census Bureau.”
Instead, it should read: “The number of incident cases is from the Nationally Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System, and the cases per million persons (Incidence) are calculated based on data from the Nationally Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System and the U.S. Census Bureau.”
5. In Results and Discussion on page 856, one sentence reads as the following: “The mean IR during this period was 7.27 cases per million PY.”
Instead, it should read: “The mean Incidence during this period was 10.36 cases per million persons per year.”
6. In lines 3–6 of page 857, the sentence reads as the following: “The primary demographic group affected by A. phagocytophilum infection was elderly white males (Table 1). More infections were reported in males (53.2%; IRs = 11.16) than in females (43.7%; IRs = 4.50)…”
Instead, this statement should read: “The populations most affected by A. phagocytophilum infection were White persons, elderly persons, and males (Table 1). More infections were reported in males (58.7%; Incidence = 12.36) than in females (38.2%; Incidence = 7.80)…”
