Abstract
Glaucoma is a group of common sight-threatening disorders affecting the optic nerve and visual fields. It afflicts 2% of the population over the age of 40 years with an incidence of 2.5 per 1000 people per year and is the second most common cause of blindness in the UK. Incidence and consequent morbidity are increasing as a result of increased life expectancy. This article aims to provide an overview for GPs of the common types of glaucoma, their presentation and management.
