Abstract

The International Society of Cerebral Blood Flow and Metabolism
The International Society of Cerebral Blood Flow and Metabolism invites applications for membership. The Society welcomes those individuals who have an interest in cerebral blood flow, metabolism, and function, from basic to clinical aspects across a wide spread of interdisciplinary fields. The criteria to evaluate your application for ordinary membership are based on your contributions to a field relevant to cerebral blood flow and metabolism: at least two refereed papers (first author, including articles in press) or one refereed paper plus two abstracts for international meetings related to that field. Papers that are not-first-author and other contributions will be considered, although papers under submission or in preparation, and other factors, e.g., positions and professorships, will not. Your application will be reviewed by the Membership Committee: Dr. Iwao Kanno, Akita Research Institute of Brain and Blood Vessels, Akita, Japan; Dr. Gitte Knudsen, Department of Neurology, Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen, Denmark; and Dr. Peter Herscovitch, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, USA.
Membership means that you join a select group of scientists who share a common interest. You will gain timely access to Society programs and qualify for a discount on the registration fee for the biennial symposia (e.g., BRAIN 99 in Copenhagen). You will enjoy other advantages such as a substantially discounted subscription to Journal of Cerebral Blood Flow and Metabolism and the opportunity to attend “schools” organized by the Society. If you are younger than 35, you may apply for bursaries for the biennial symposia. Most important, your membership will help you to stay at the forefront of new research and knowledge concerning cerebral blood flow metabolism, and function.
Because all members have to pay a membership fee of $15 and a subscription fee for the Journal, Lippincott Williams & Wilkins will invoice you for the combined membership/Journal subscription fee of U.S. $187. Members residing outside the U.S., Canada, and Mexico must add an additional $14 for airfreight delivery of the Journal. If you became a member before July 1, you must pay for the entire year; you will receive all the relevant back issues to the preceding January 1. After July 1, you have two choices: you may pay for the entire year and receive all back issues or begin receiving issues from the coming January 1 only. If you pay the above fees toward the end of the year, your membership will be automatically renewed every year at that date.
Junior Members: Any young scientist early in his or her career (predoctoral or postdoctoral) may apply for Junior Membership. Individuals may hold Junior Membership for a maximum of 4 years and are not eligible for Junior Membership after age 35. Junior Members are entitled to a reduced registration fee for the biennial symposia and to apply for bursaries to attend these meetings. They are not entitled to vote in the elections of the Society. The membership dues are the same as for regular members (currently $15 per year), and Junior Members have the option of receiving Journal of Cerebral Blood Flow and Metabolism at the same reduced rate as Ordinary Members.
