Abstract

JAPA’s New Author Prize recognizes significant contributions to the journal by new authors. The prize is awarded for the best published manuscript by a new author, and includes a $500 honorarium that is presented at the Winter Meetings of the American Psychoanalytic Association.
A new author is considered to be someone who has not previously published in JAPA or any other major psychoanalytic journal and whose psychoanalytic career is in its early stages. The editor-in-chief has established a mentoring/editorial group to review submissions by new authors and assist in developing manuscripts for publication in JAPA.
Manuscripts must be submitted via the usual JAPA submission process using the online system accessed at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/japa. At the time of submission, an author may indicate in the cover letter that the manuscript is to be considered for the New Author Prize, and may ask that the paper be directed to the mentoring/editorial group for assistance in manuscript development. Final decision about publication remains with the editorial board and the editor-in-chief, as does the decision about selecting the annual prize-winning paper.
