Abstract
The lack of public support, recognition, and community re sources the probation officer has endured for decades is directly related to his failure to communicate with the public. The pro bation officer has a responsibility to seek community support- no one else will or should do this. "Crime in the streets" is a major public issue, yet the probation officer seldom engages in any of the public dialogues about crime and delinquency.
