Abstract
The function of a teacher is one process involved in comprehensive programing to further the adjustment of adolescent mentally retarded students. A teacher in secondary school programs must often be concerned with a variety of functions such as adult life adjustment, vocational competency, economic independence, and literacy competencies. Preparation of a teacher must first involve the identification of the role(s) that the teacher assumes, specification of such objectives for preparation to meet these roles, delineating activities to meet these objectives, and the organization of the activities within a total context to provide unity.
