Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of certain prelanguage communication programming techniques on the development of imitative behaviors of three profoundly mentally handicapped students. Results indicate that the procedures were effective and that the imitative behaviors generalized to other individuals. Problems related to research design flaws, as well as issues pertaining to the overall effect of imitation skill development are discussed.
