Abstract
Neurological changes associated with Alzheimer's disease have been consistently documented in individuals with Down syndrome who are 35 years of age or older. A genetic relationship has been suggested between Down syndrome and Alzheimer's disease. In this paper, the diagnosis of Alzheimer's diseases and its progressive behavioral impact on persons with Down syndrome is discussed. Several implications and suggestions for care and service provision for adults with Down syndrome are presented.
