Abstract
The 31 December 1992 completion of the internal market as envisaged in the Single European Act will have far-reaching consequences for all Europe, as member-states, companies, employers, employees and as individuals. Not all the consequences can be foreseen, but progress is being achieved at an ever faster pace. The estimated economic gains of £140 billion or more and the creation of millions of new jobs are powerful incentives!
What will be the impact on instrumentation, measurement and control? This introductory article by the President is the first of a series to be published in Measurement and Control, each being written from a different viewpoint. They will address the issues involved and seek to highlight the evolving situations.
