The paper describes the concept behind network management within Yorkshire Water and examines its evolution from inception within the Calder Area of Western Division, Yorkshire Water. An overview of the role of and the assistance which can be offered by an integrated management information system within the water supply and distribution function, is presented. The implementation of digital mapping and telemetry is reviewed. The paper concludes with a vision statement on ‘the way forward’ in the quest for overall optimal operation in asset data collection.
