Porosity and cycling retention in composite-based three-dimensional disc electrodes for Li ion battery

The three-dimensional disc structure was designed for the anode of Li ion battery. It consisted of Cu (or Ag)–CoO composites. The phase transition of cobalt oxide from CoO to Co₃O₄ and high porosity were responsible for its high capacity and the poor cycling retention in Ag-based three-dimensional disc electrode. On the contrary, Cu-based three-dimensional disc electrode, which did not show any phase transition and had comparatively low porosity, showed excellent cycling retention and high capacity.
