A technique is described for smoothing the transition from informal to more structured diagnostic tasks among preschool children demonstrating separation anxiety or reluc-tance to interact cooperatively. Capitalizing on preschoolers' preexistent relationship with television, the procedure employs video equipment as a mediator in the establish-ment of clinical rapport and a medium through which to conduct formal evaluation.
