Abstract
Music Educators Journal Seeks Nominations for:
Associate Editor
Ten members of the Editorial Committee (one for 2018–20 term, nine for 2018–22 term)
Twenty members of the Advisory Committee (2018–22)
The successful Associate Editor nominee will serve in that role 2018–20, as Academic Editor 2020–22, and as Past Editor 2022–24.
Qualifications for All Positions
Be a member of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME).
Be an active or former music educator (preK through college) committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and research, evidenced by active participation in the field of music education.
Have the expertise and time commitment necessary to carry out duties as described.
Document sustained professional leadership in music education.
Editorial Committee and Associate Editor Nominees:
Must have a record of publication in MEJ or similar journals.
Must be able to attend Editorial Committee meetings during the biennial NAfME conferences (20120 and 2022).
May or may not have served as an Advisory Committee member.
Additionally, nominees for Associate Editor should have previously served on a formal Editorial Committee (not as an ad hoc reviewer).
Advisory Committee Nominees:
Should have a record of publication in MEJ or similar journals, including state Music Educators Association (MEA) journals
Should maintain regular attendance at state MEA and regional NAfME conferences.
It is anticipated that Advisory Committee members may, upon successful completion of a term, place their names in nomination for membership on the Editorial Committee.
Act as reviewer of manuscripts submitted to MEJ in a blind online review process.
Uphold and elevate the scholarly integrity and practical application of MEJ articles.
Consider all valid scholarly perspectives and respond with thorough written reviews of manuscripts in a timely manner.
Editorial Committee members review a minimum of one or two manuscripts per month, and Advisory Committee members review approximately one manuscript every two to three months.
Advisory Committee members, though not required to attend, will be encouraged to attend any regularly scheduled meetings of the Editorial Committee and will be invited to participate fully in editorial deliberations at these meetings.
The Associate Editor will complete all responsibilities commensurate with membership on the Editorial Committee. In addition, the Associate Editor will assist both the Editor and the Academic Editor as requested.
Application Process—All Applicants Should:
Submit all nomination materials electronically. All materials must appear within the body of the e-mail text or attached as Word or PDF documents (.doc, .docx, or .pdf). Other formats will not be accepted. Documents will be distributed to current members of the Editorial Committee for consideration.
Provide a letter indicating your interest in the position and a statement that you can fulfill the required duties.
Editorial Committee Applicants:
3. Provide a three- to four-page statement that characterizes your qualifications for the position (if a statement is longer, only the first four pages will be considered).
4. Obtain a letter of nomination, sent directly to the e-mail address below, from an individual who is nationally recognized in music teacher education. This letter should speak to your qualifications to serve in this specific capacity.
5. Provide a copy of a manuscript that you feel best represents characteristics of your writing appropriate to service on the MEJ Editorial Committee. A published article focusing on research-grounded practice is preferred but not required.
6. Provide a one-paragraph statement expressing your view of MEJ’s role in the profession, what you would like MEJ to become, and what you think MEJ should avoid becoming.

7. Obtain a letter of nomination, sent directly to the following e-mail address, from the editor of a journal for which you have served on an editorial committee. This letter should candidly address the following characteristics of your service to that journal: (1) punctuality, (2) collegiality, (3) quality of reviews, and (4) contribution to the journal’s mission.
Advisory Committee Applicants:
3. Provide a resume, limited to two pages, that characterizes your qualifications for the position, including a list of any publications you have authored.
4. Obtain a letter of nomination, sent directly to the following e-mail address, from someone who is professionally acquainted with your work as a music educator. This letter should speak to your qualifications to serve in this specific capacity.
5. Provide a one-paragraph statement about an MEJ article published in 2017 that you found to be especially useful and explain why it was useful.
