Abstract

As Editors of Sociology, we are pleased to receive requests to review any recently published books in the field of sociology or books which are likely to be of interest and relevance to readers of the journal. A large number of unsolicited review copies and promotional notices from a range of publishers are sent to the journal offices throughout the year, but we think that it could be more productive if potential reviewers contacted us directly with requests to review any book that has caught their attention, rather than just listing books received. If we think it would be a good idea to review the book in the journal, we will contact the publishers ourselves and secure a review copy for you. We will still, occasionally, publish lists of books which look relevant but we would like to encourage you to suggest books for review.
Please note that when making a request to review a book, it helps if you are able to set out briefly why it is that you think a review of the book would be appropriate for Sociology, and why it is that you might make a useful reviewer. Please also remember that as well as single book reviews the journal also publishes regular review essays. The latter are more substantial reviews of three or more books taken together and provide an overview and evaluation of a topic or theme for example of emergent sociological interest; they are a real service to the readership and we particularly welcome requests to take on a review essay.
