Abstract

After six years, this issue marks the end of my term as co-editor of JEngL. Peter Grund will continue in his role and will be joined by a new co-editor, Alexandra D’Arcy, in 2018. I take this opportunity to thank the members of the editorial board and the many peer reviewers who have provided invaluable guidance to Peter and me. I also thank the authors who submitted their work to JEngL during my editorial tenure. My perspective on the world of English linguistics has been greatly expanded by reading the wide range of research we receive at the Journal. I want to acknowledge the support received from our publisher SAGE and from the University of Missouri, extending thanks in particular to those (former) graduate students who have served as editorial assistants: Christopher Strelluf, Lauren Fath, and Corinna Cook.
The editorial team has also included Susan Tamasi and Lauren Squires, whose work as Reviews Editor I have very much appreciated. I owe a special debt of gratitude to my main editorial partner, Peter Grund. We were both new to the job of editing a journal in 2012, and I am grateful to have had such a supportive colleague in climbing the JEngL learning curve and in carrying out the work of the Journal over the last six years. Like many JEngL authors I have benefited from his scholarly expertise especially in matters related to corpus linguistics and the history of English. Peter has also helped me realize that I am not nearly as skilled at copyediting as I thought I was prior to witnessing his mastery of the craft. Editing an academic journal is vital but difficult work, and in my case the load was made immeasurably more bearable by sharing it with a generous and capable partner.
