In this paper the problem of full linearisation, which means linearising the state and output equations simultaneously, is tackled. First we present necessary and sufficient conditions for the full linearisation of a class of non-linear systems; then a method to design a closed-loop observer for linearised system is presented. Finally, the developed technique is used to investigate the control of an activated-sludge process. Some simulation results are given.
