Visualization of Multimode Radiation Patterns of Acoustic Transducers by Acousto-Optic Diffraction

Abstract

Information concerning the spatial response of a wideband acoustic transducer when excited by a wideband signal is essential, specifically when the transducer exhibits extraneous modes within the bandwidth of both the transducer and the excitation signal. A method is presented by which the radiation patterns of these modes can be visualized discretely under short pulse excitation.
