On the basis of my experience as a professor in Oslo and my other European encounters, I would suggest that this holds for the whole of European academia.

I am thinking of a Dutch funding program called Smart Mix, which allocates some 100 million euros a year to 8 or 10 projects in which the research serves the economic interests of the Dutch industry and is based on an alliance with “social” partners, as it is called, but which preferably are corporations.
