sion, similar rightist organizations) may serve for some
individual members-tension release, displacement o f
aggression, projection of weaknesses, a feeling of pow
er-its ultimate goal is to affect the social and political
direction of American life. Its ultimate purpose, then,
is political: it hopes to implant a fairly well-defined ide
ology in enough politically active and influential people
to determine the future direction of this country.
