Female Predominance in Immigration to the United States since 1930: A First Look 1

Abstract

After a brief comparative discussion of postwar international migration flows, this article analyzes U.S. statistics on the characteristics of immigrants to the United States, by sex; discusses the reasons for the predominance of female immigrants since 1930; and lays the statistical groundwork for future analyses of its implications for the U.S.
