Music activity reports by music teachers with varying training in Orff Schulwerk

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine music activities occurring in the music classroom of teachers who received different levels of training in Orff Schulwerk. The subjects (N = 49) were teachers participating in three training levels at a summer Orff Schulwerk certification program in a university in the USA. Teachers were asked to report the types and amount of musical activities in their own classroom. A questionnaire modeled after one used in a published research study was used to obtain the data. Results from the selfreport of participants indicate that there were similarities as well as differences among music teachers of three levels of Orff training. Similarities were found in the amount of time devoted to reading, listening, and singing. The impact of the Orff Schulwerk was detected in increased amount in playing, creating and moving for teachers with advanced training. It appears that with increased training teachers increase the amount of activities with the children without replacing any of the activities. There was also an increase in student participation in decision making for teachers with more advanced Orff training.

Enquête sur les activités d'enseignants de musique avec différents niveaux de formation en Orff Schulwerk

Le but de cette étude est de comparer les activités musicales qui ont lieu dans la salle de classe d' enseignants dont la formation en Orff Schulwerk se situe à différents niveaux. Les sujets de cette recherche (n = 49) sont des enseignants qui ont été placés à trois niveaux différents au cours d'un stage de formation en Orff Schulwerk réalisé dans une université aux États Unis. On a demandé à ces enseignants des renseignements sur le type et la quantité d'activités musicales qui ont lieu dans leurs classes. Pour obtenir ces renseignements, on a eu recours, en le modifiant, à un questionnaire utilisé au préalable dans une recherche qui avait fait l'objet d'un rapport publié. Les resultats des rapports que font eux-mêmes les participants indiquent qu'il y a à la fois des différences et des ressemblances entre les enseignants des trois niveux de formation. Les ressemblances concernent le temps consacré à la lecture, à l'audition et au chant. Les effets entraînés par l'usage de la méthode Orff Schulwerk se manifestent à leur tour par l'augmentation des activités d'éxécution, de création et de mouvement chez les enseignants des niveaux plus avancés. Il semble évident que la quantité d'activités que les enseignants réalisent avec leurs jeunes élèves augmente à mesure que la formation de ces enseignants s' approfondit, tandis qu'il n'y a pas de remplacement de ces types d'activités par d'autres, d'un genre différent. Une autre tendance observée concerne la participation des élèves dans le processus de prise de décision: cette participation est plus fréquente pendant les classes des enseignants qui ont une connaissance plus approfondie de la méthode Orff.

Musik Tätigkeitsberichte von Musiklehrern mit unterschiedlicher Ausbildung in dem Orff Schulwerk

Das Ziel dieser Studie war es, Musikaktivitäten zu prüfen die im Musikunterricht von Lehrern vorkommen die im Orff Schulwerk verschiedener Ausbildungsniveau erhielten. Die Subjektpersonen (N = 49) waren Lehrer die in drei Ausbildungsstufen an einem Sommer Orff Schulwerk Zertifizierungsprogramm in einer Universität in den USA teilnahmen. Die Lehrer wurden gebeten die Art und Anzahl der musikalischen Aktivitäten in ihrem eigenen Unterricht zu berichten. Ein Fragebogen wurde nach einem Modell eines in einem veröffentlichten Nachforschungstudies bearbeitet und zu Erhaltung der Daten verwendet. Ergebnisse aus dem selfreport der Teilnehmer weisen darauf hin, dass es Ähnlichkeiten sowie Unterschiede zwischen Musiklehrer der drei Stufen der Orff-Training gab. Ähnlichkeiten wurden festgestellt in Zeitverwendung für Lesen, Hören und Singen. Die Auswirkungen des Orff Schulwerks wurden bei erhöhter Anzahl des Spielen, der Kreation und der Bewegung für Lehrer mit fortgeschrittenem Training festgestellt. Es ist wahrzunehmen, dass mit erhöhter Ausbildung die Lehrer auch die Anzahl von Aktivitäten mit den Kindern erhöhen, ohne andere Tätigkeiten ausfallen zu lassen. Es gab auch eine Erhöhung in der Zahl der Studentenbeteiligung an der Entscheidungsfindung für Lehrer mit fortgeschrittenem Orff Training.

Relatos de actividades de profesores de música con diferentes niveles de formación en Orff Schulwerk

El objetivo de este estudio fue examinar las actividades musicales desenvolvidas en el aula de música de los docentes que recibieron diferentes niveles de formación en la Orff Schulwerk. Los sujetos de las investigaciones (n = 49) fueron profesores que participaron de los tres niveles de formación de un programa de verano de certificación en Orff Schulwerk en una universidad en los EE.UU. A los profesores se les pidió que informe a los tipos y la cantidad de actividades musicales en su propio salón de clases. Un cuestionario fue modelado según un estudio de investigación con el cual obtuvimos los datos. Los resultados de la auto-evaluación de los participantes indicam que hubo similitudes y diferencias entre los profesores de los tres niveles de formación en Orff. Se encontraron similitudes en la cantidad de tiempo dedicado a leer, escuchar y cantar. El impacto del Orff Schulwerk fue detectado en relación al aumento de las actividades de ejecución, creación y movimiento de los profesores en niveles avanzados. Hay indicios de que con el aumento de la formación de los profesores aumentan también la cantidad de actividades que realizan con los niños, sin que con esto se hagan substituciones de ninguna de las actividades. También hubo un aumento de la participación de los alumnos en el proceso de toma de decisiones en la sala de clases de los profesores que tenían una formación avanzada en Orff.
