Abstract

Hello and Happy New Year! We are excited to be bringing new procedures to IJME, as we are now publishing a consolidated journal that brings together the editorial boards of the previous IJME: Practice and IJME: Research divisions of the journal. Look for updated Instructions to Contributors shortly. Here is an overview of how the process will work.
Manuscripts (which should be no longer than 20 pages, double-spaced, Times New Roman 12-point font, inclusive of references and figures/tables/graphs/end-notes/footnotes) will be sent to Co-Editor Bo Wah Leung, by uploading the Word file into SAGE’s ScholarOne website as instructed. Prof. Leung will review the paper for its appropriateness to the journal as a piece of empirical research. He also will check that the manuscript is in appropriate length and written in a scholarly style worthy of further review. Assuming the submission fits these criteria, the manuscript will then be sent to one of the other co-editors, who will select and invite reviewers who are experts in the topic and/or methodology, and who will handle subsequent communication with authors, reviewers, and SAGE staff. Therefore, please be aware that, when the new system goes live, you may receive communications from two different co-editors during the process. Until the new instructions appear in the SAGE website, papers will continue to be handled in the current way. We expect this transformation to happen very soon, probably by the time you are reading this note!
Additionally, we will be issuing information regarding applications for the editorial review board for the time period 2016-2022. Please make certain you have your membership in good order so that you receive notifications regarding the application process. This process generally involves a letter of nomination and providing a substantive vitae regarding one’s scholarly publications and experience. We have several reviewers who will be retiring from the board. So we will need new reviewers with substantive experience in various research methodologies and with a strong background in understanding practitioners’ needs and in communicating effectively with practitioners. Please consider serving, or nominating other outstanding music education scholars for the editorial review board.
And now, please enjoy these terrific reports of outstanding scholarly work from across the globe!
