The Syndrome of Pravoslavnic Moldovenism: Psychosocial,political and religious implications in the Orthodox Church of the Republic of Moldova

This study provides an in-depth analysis of the complex phenomenon known as the „Pravoslavnic Moldovenism Syndrome”, an ideology that has significantly shaped the national identity and geopolitical orientations of the Republic of Moldova. Closely tied to the historical and actual rapports among Moldova, Romania, and Russia, this syndrome consists of promoting a Moldovan identity anchored in the values and traditions of Russian Orthodoxy, distinct from the Romanian one. This investigation offers a detailed analysis of the history and development of „Moldovenist” ideology, highlighting its role in regional identity and geopolitical disputes. It clarifies the significance of key terms such as „Moldovenism” and „Orthodox” within the historical and political context of the region. Additionally, it analyzes how the Orthodox Church, especially the Metropolis of Chișinău, has been involved in promoting and consolidating the „Moldovenist” ideology, thereby influencing the political and social life of the Republic of Moldova.
