Methodological aspects of studying the anodic oxidation influence on the composition,structure,and properties of aluminum- and titanium-based alloys

Industrial aluminum (AMg5, D16) and titanium (OT4-1) alloys with high corrosion resistance, ductility, and machinability were comprehensively characterized. The compositions of the initial and anodized alloys and main phase were estimated (deviation from 1% (AMg5) to 6.5% (OT4-1)). ∼2% of an unknown impurity phase in initial and anodized AMg5 and amorphous oxygen-containing aluminum phases (anodized AMg5, D16) were detected. The elemental composition deviations from the regulatory documents were established (up to 4.51% for Mg content, 2.77% for Cu, 4.69% for O in AMg5, D16, OT4-1, respectively). An explanation for the increase in the microhardness of anodized alloys compared to the initial ones by 19.3% (AMg5), 25.8% (D16), 4.9% (OT4-1) was proposed. The obtained results allow establishing “composition—structure—property” relationship.
