Abstract
The project aims to reduce the excessive use of residential care and custody for deviant young people by pro viding an alternative in the community. It is argued that deviancy and not delinquency should be the main issue for social agencies, who together should form an integrated system for the manage ment of deviancy. Practical aspects of the day care programmes and intake policy are described. Some preliminary results of evaluative work are briefly indicated.
