The isothermal filling of a flat mould by a non-Newtonian fluid with simultaneous porous layer impregnation is investigated. The flow in the cavity is described by inertialess Navier–Stokes equations, the flow in the porous layer by Darcy's equation, and the flow in the region adjoining the ‘fluid–porous layer’ boundary by the Brinkman equation. In the course of moulding, processes of gelation or curing of the binder may occur in the fluid. The viscosity is considered to be dependent on the extent to which the chemical reaction takes place.
