The Provision of an Automatic Calendar on a Stroke Ward: An Example of Single Case Methodology to Evaluate Management Procedures

The aim of the study was to evaluate whether the provision of a large automatic calendar would assist patients' recall of the day and date. Patients admitted to a stroke ward were assessed weekly on four orientation questions. For periods of 6 weeks, an automatic calendar was available in their ward bay. Performance in these 6 weeks was compared with an equivalent period without the calendar. Results indicated that there was no evidence of an overall beneficial effect of providing the calendar.
