Abstract

Some suggest that Moses languished for 40 years, pastoring sheep in the Midian desert before returning to liberate the Israelites from Egypt, whereas others see this a as divine and predestined plan. Moreover, although the editorships of Nevin Scrimshaw, Irwin Rosenberg, and me have not been dallying over the last 4 decades, there is an expression: “Life begins at 40.” If this is true, then the mobilization of reflections, individual history narratives, archival publications, and visions of the future of research offerings over the course of this year will have revitalized the journal, which first placed its pages before us in October, 1979 as volume 1, issue 1 of the Food and Nutrition Bulletin.
Toward the front of volume 40, issue 4, we present 2 invited commentary essays on the vision of publications from the past to the future in selected topic areas of interest to the FNB. Irwin Rosenberg and Corey O’Hara have contributed “The Next 40 Years of Impact of the Food and Nutrition Bulletin”; Noel Solomons, “Vision of Research on Human Linear Growth.”
In the rest of this issue we have 9 original-article contributions and a narrative review offered through the peer-review system of the Food and Nutrition Bulletin by our loyal author-contributors. We have tried to be faithful to our commitment to keep their science coming to the readership. Seventy authors composed the 10 submission-initiated articles in the present issue. The contributions come from settings in Asia, Latin America, Africa, and Europe (Portugal), as well as a meta-analysis and a systematic review covering literature from around the world. The term food (in)security garnishes 3 of the papers. Another contribution covers clinical aspects of severe acute malnutrition, while another covers the fluoride content across the Mexican food supply.
It has been a real pleasure for all of those involved with the production of the Food and Nutrition Bulletin to have shared the Ruby Anniversary with all of you in 2019. After the effort put into the commemoration volume of this journal, we are all truly due our forty winks and forty-fying ourselves for the next 2-score years of the ambitious and important endeavor known as the Food and Nutrition Bulletin.
