The Effect of Bis-(3-Triethoxysilylpropyl)— Tetrasulfide,Si69 on Properties of Recycled Poly (Vinyl chloride)/Acrylonitrile—Butadiene Rubber/Fly Ash (PVCr/NBR/FA) Composites

Abstract

The effect of bis-(3-triethoxysilylpropyl)—tetrasulfide, Si69 on the tensile properties, swelling behavior and morphological characteristics of recycled poly(vinyl chloride)/acrylonitrile— butadiene rubber/fly ash (PVCr/NBR/FA) composites was studied. The composites were melt mixed at a temperature of 150°C and rotor speed of 50rpm. Si69 was used to improve the interaction between PVCr/NBR and FA. It was found that PVCr/NBR/FA + Si69 composites exhibit higher tensile strength, tensile modulus (M₁₀₀), and elongation at break, but lower swelling index than PVCr/NBR/FA composites without Si69. SEM study of the tensile fracture surfaces of the composites indicates that the presence of Si69 increased the interfacial interaction between PVCr/NBR and FA and also improved the dispersion of FA in PVCr/NBR matrix.
