Abstract
Minority children's lack of responsiveness to projective tests has been attributed to underlying verbal deficits versus productivity on the TAT and the TEMAS (Tell-me-a-story), a new TAT depicting ethnic minority figures, cultural themes, and urban backgrounds. Results indicated that children were more responsive to TEMAS pictures than TAT pictures, and this effect was more enhanced for females than males. Children were more likely to respond in Spanish to the TEMAS and to switch from English on the TAT to Spanish on the TEMAS. Results support earlier findings of increased responsiveness of minority children to culturally relevant stimuli and also suggest a promising instrument for assessment of minority children.
La falta de respuestas de niños de grupos minoritarios hacia tests proyectivos, ha sido atribuida a un subrayado déficit verbal contra tests con prejuicios culturales. Este estudio comparó la producción verbal de niños Hispanos en el TAT y el TEMAS (Cuéntame una historia), el nuevo TAT cuenta con figuras de minorías étnicas, temas culturales y escenas urbanas. Los resultados indicaron que los niños dieron más respuestas a los cuadros del TEMAS que a los cuadros del TAT, este efecto fué más notable en las mujeres que en los hombres. En general los niños tendieron a responder en español al TEMAS y en inglés al TAT. Los resultados apoyan otros anteriores acerca del incremento de respuestas de niños de grupos minóritarios hacia estímulos que son culturalmente importantes, también se sugiere su uso como instrumento prometedor para la evaluación de niños de grupos minóritarios.
