As part of an ongoing effort to promote quality in multi-population surveys and to raise the level of methodological expertise in various applied fields of comparative survey research, the Second International Conference on
This conference will bring together researchers and survey practitioners concerned with survey methodology and practice in comparative contexts. It will provide a unique opportunity to discuss and present research that contributes to our understanding of survey needs and methods in multi-cultural, multi-national, and multi-lingual contexts. Conference contributions will help document current best practices and stimulate new ideas for further research and development.

Research with the Micro-census - Analyzing Social Structure and Barriers (Deutsch)
Liebe Kolleginnen und Kollegen,
Unter dem Titel “Forschen mit dem Mikrozensus - Analysen zur Sozialstruktur und zum sozialen Wandel” (Research with the Micro-census - Analyzing Social Structure and Barriers) findet am 11. und 12. November in Mannheim dieses Jahr die 8. Nutzerkonferenz zum Mikrozensus statt.
In 7 Sitzungen und 23 Einzelvorträgen werden u. a. neue Forschungsergebnisse zu den folgenden Themen vorgestellt: Arbeitsmarkt; Partnerwahl, Lebensformen und Familie; Soziale Ungleichheit; Erwerbstätigkeit und Geschlecht; Migration und Integration; und Methoden.
Neben der Diskussion der Forschungsergebnisse gibt es Zeit für den Erfahrungsaustausch zwischen den Forscherinnen und Forschern und mit den Expertinnen und Experten aus den statistischen Ämtern. Über aktuelle Entwicklungen in der amtlichen Statistik wird in einem eigenen Themenblock informiert.
Die Nutzerkonferenz ist eine gemeinsame Veranstaltung von GESIS, den Forschungsdatenzentren der Statistischen Ämter des Bundes und der Länder und dem Statistischen Bundesamt. Those of you who have received email announcements via the BMS-RC33 distribution list have often seen the logo “[bms-rc33] Call -…” Now that the BMS has joined Sage Publications and publishes six research articles or notes per issue, we are in the process of establishing a backlog of reviewed articles and notes that have been accepted for publication. You are therefore strongly encouraged to submit your interesting methodological articles to the BMS and to encourage your colleagues or students to do the same. Once this backlog of accepted articles and notes is of sufficient size, we will be posting on our Web site (http://bms.sagepub.com) all accepted texts as soon as the review process is finished and before publication in a specific issue of the BMS.
Our BMS “Information for authors” can be found on the BMS Web site at Sage. Please keep us in mind even when participating in the different sociological research conferences often announced here in the BMS or via our distribution lists.
BMS-RC33 List “Calls” since Our Last Issue
Anyone can join our free and open but “reduced” list AIMSl (one to two emails per week). However, the “full” BMS-RC33 list (five to six emails per week) is reserved for authors of BMS articles, readers of AIMS lists (10 euros per year), members of the RC33 (60 euros for four years) and BMS subscribers ($63 per year). In the Computer/Internet section of this issue of the BMS, you can see a sample of the difference between AIMSl and BMS-RC33 emails over a month.
