The United States has the highest teen birth rate in the industrialized world, and adolescents continue to have the lowest rates of breastfeeding. Although individual pregnancy and parenting experiences in adolescents are modified by a variety of factors, common themes of adolescent psychology and behavior may help plan effective strategies for breastfeeding promotion and support.
