Abstract

Dear readers of HSMR,
I wish all of you a great start to 2019! The year 2018 was so far the best year for the journal. Submissions have continuously increased, and the depth and richness of themes are also improving year after year; the journal is now accredited as a true global outlet for research having published papers received from all continents. Further, we’re trying to serve well the mission of the journal to present research both from developed and developing countries, as health management and policy issues are increasingly common while we can learn a lot from cross contaminations and comparisons among different contexts.
Healthcare delivery and health challenges are rapidly evolving. Technology revolution will affect and transform the way we managed health services, with innovative and disruptive opportunities we even struggle to envision.
However, while we look at new futures, we still fight with old battles, such as: the development of effective community services; the engagement and connection of primary care physicians and specialists; new ways to implement disease management and population health management.
That’s why we start 2019 with an issue dedicated to a context where we need to spend increasing attention on health management and policy research beyond rhetoric: community services. If hospital care remains central, community care will help us to lead not only a long life, but overall a healthy life.
Happy new year!
