To improve the working life of the integral bladed disk (blisk) with small mistuning, a passive approach for vibration reduction by the hard-coating damper was developed in this paper. A reduced-order model of the hard-coating mistuned blisk was presented for the improvement of computational efficiency and accurate analysis of forced responses. Based on the finite element model of a single sector and the cyclic symmetry properties, modal characteristics of the hard-coating tuned blisk were obtained. Then, a criterion called frequency difference and its standard deviation was proposed to determine the closely spaced modes of the hard-coating tuned blisk. Next, modal characteristics of the hard-coating mistuned blisk were gotten based on the relationship between the tuned and mistuned structure. Finally, forced response amplitudes of the hard-coating mistuned blisk were solved by using the proportional damping model. Particularly, the specific influence of hard coating and coating thickness on dynamics of the mistuned blisk were also investigated, respectively.
